Sabrina Christensen | Awesome Private Tour Guide | Hong Kong
Foreword by Jamie
Sabrina Christensen of Hong Kong Trails and Tours
January 13th 2026 is a day I will never forget, not only was it my birthday but it was the day Sabrina first contacted my by email as a newly minted private tour guide
The toughest thing a new private tour guide faces in Hong Kong is simply getting enquiries and bookings, they have pretty much no visibility and it can take many years to get established,
I can offer a shortcut for a new guide who is absolutely passionate about being the best possible private tour guide and Sabrina fit the criteria I look for, I have done 2,400+ private tours of Hong Kong and I was the first private tour guide in Hong Kong setting up in 2010
I do think there is something quietly satisfying about watching a fellow private tour guide find her stride. Over the past 16 years I have had the pleasure of getting to know quite a number of independent operators who share the same stubborn belief that a tour of Hong Kong should feel personal, unhurried and rooted in real local knowledge rather than a fixed script.
Sabrina is one of those people. She runs Hong Kong Trails and Tours, and for some time now I have been referring guests to her when my own diary is full or when a particular request sits more naturally with her strengths.
What follows is a longer look at the woman behind the company, the private tours she offers, and the reasons I feel comfortable sending potential clientsl her way.
A long-time Hong Kong resident with an outsider’s fresh eyes
Sabrina arrived in Hong Kong from South India and has made the city her home for the past 17 years or so. She is a Hong Kong citizen, lives here with her English husband and has two adult children, and she has gradually absorbed the city’s rhythms in the way only long-term residents do. She still brings an outsider’s curiosity to the place, which is useful. She notices the details that lifelong locals sometimes take for granted and she is happy to explain them.
She is a licensed tour guide and is First-Aid and CPR certified
Hiking is not a sideline - her hiking tours are a real passion
If you spend any time talking with Sabrina, the conversation eventually turns to trails. She has completed more than 670 hikes, many of them in Hong Kong and a good number further afield. Her personal list includes Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, Bhutan’s Tiger’s Nest, Mount Kinabalu, Mount Toubkal, Pico Ruivo and the circumambulation of Mount Kailash. Mont Blanc is next on her calendar for September 2026. That level of experience shows. She understands pacing, weather, fitness levels and the small adjustments that turn a potentially tiring day into a comfortable one.
Hong Kong’s countryside is one of its better-kept realities. Within a short distance of the densest urban districts sit coastal ridges, forested paths, sea views and quiet villages. Sabrina has walked most of them more than once. She knows which sections of the Dragon’s Back offer the cleanest views, how the light falls on certain ridges late in the afternoon, and which trails remain manageable for guests who are not regular hikers. She also knows when to turn back, when to slow down, and when a guest simply needs a longer rest and a cold drink.
Her hiking tours are private and fully customisable. Guests can choose something as familiar as the Dragon’s Back or something quieter on Lamma Island, in the New Territories, or along the green corridors that climb from Central toward the Peak. She meets people at their hotel, the airport or the cruise terminal and adjusts the day to the group’s energy. Families with children, older walkers and first-time visitors are all welcome. Children 17 and under join free when travelling with their parents - a practical detail that many families appreciate.
Private City tours of Hong Kong with the same flexible approach
While the trails still matter, Sabrina also offers a solid range of private city and island tours. These cover the usual highlights - Victoria Peak, Central’s mix of old and new, Kowloon’s markets and waterfront, Lantau’s Big Buddha and Tai O, and fuller day combinations of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon - but they are shaped around the guests rather than the other way round.
She listens first. Some visitors want colonial history and architecture. Others prefer wet markets, street food stops, quiet temples or simply a relaxed walk with plenty of time for photographs and conversation. She is comfortable with private car arrangements, public transport days, or a mixture of both. Layover guests and cruise passengers short on time are regularly accommodated. The pace remains theirs. She does not rush people through a checklist.
Her language skills help. She is fluent in English and Tamil, manages in Hindi and several other South Indian languages, and has basic Cantonese. Communication is rarely an obstacle.
The qualities that make the difference
Technical competence is one thing. Personality is another. Sabrina is, quite simply, a very kind and caring person. She takes genuine pleasure in seeing guests light up when they realise how much green space exists just beyond the skyscrapers. She is patient with questions, thoughtful about physical limitations, and unflappable when plans need to change because of weather or energy levels. She also enjoys a challenge. Give her a request that sits slightly outside the usual template and she will work at it until a good solution appears.
I have referred quite a number of tours to her over the past 8 months - dates I could not take, groups whose interests leaned more toward hiking, or simply days when two bookings arrived for the same afternoon. The feedback that comes back is consistent. Guests describe her as knowledgeable, warm, energetic and easy to spend a day with. They leave feeling they have seen more than the postcard version of the city.
That combination of experience, genuine enthusiasm and personal warmth is rarer than it should be. In an industry that can sometimes lean toward volume or polished scripts, Sabrina still works the old-fashioned way: one group at a time, listening carefully, adjusting as the day unfolds.

Her website lists the current range of private city and hiking options and makes clear that custom itineraries are the norm rather than the exception. \Tripadvisor carries reviews of her work if you prefer independent opinions.
I have no hesitation recommending her. For me she is a gift from heaven. she is experienced and deeply familiar with both the urban and the green sides of Hong Kong, and she treats her guests with care. If your dates do not work with me, or if the day you have in mind involves more hiking than city walking or you want to do a car tour, she is an excellent choice. You will be in safe, capable and genuinely friendly hands.

I do not do Food Tours in Hong Kong but I know people that do!

The information above can be shown to restaurant managers in Hong Kong if you are intolerant to gluten and nuts,
I do not do food tours as mentioned above, I have very specific reasons and part of it is that I do not speak Cantonese or write Chinese, I am from Yorkshire in England and I lack the language gene and it is not through lack of trying and yes a lot of restaurants do not have English menu’s or staff who speak conversational English.
.. and yet I have eaten at close to 1,400 restaurants in Hong Kong since January 2nd 1972, my wife was born in Hong Kong and we have been together over 40 years and her first language is Cantonese and a lot of her family are Chinese or half Chinese so I have never had much of an issue!
This does not translate to doing food tours though, yes, I could do them, no problem there but they would never ever be as good as the food tours done by my friends (see the 3 links above) most of their awesome guides are locally born Hong Kong Chinese and obviously food culture is part of their DNA, it is impossible for me to compete with that!
So please feel free to contact them for food tours
I do not do Hiking Tours in Hong Kong but I know someone that does!
