I often get asked why I promote my competitors, a very good questions but they are my friends, yes, in some respects competitors but I have been in business a long time as a consultant and strategic alliances in industries are very common.
The logic is pretty simple | I am a team of one and I have never been interested in having a team of guides, at best I can do one tour a day but quite often I get multiple enquries from people to book a tour on the same day.
I have a core group of friends in the business, many of them I have known for well over a decade and we share the same values so to me it makes perfect sense to work with other tour companies.
In this case with This is Asia Tours it is simple, I do NOT do Car Tours in any shape or form, I have my reasons the biggest one is I am a huge fan of getting around on public transport, Hong Kong Culture 101 in my book but yes, there are people who prefer to do a tour by car
Jacky at This is Asia Tours runs 3 car tours which are very popular and all involve visiting Lantau Island and specifically the Big Buddha and the Tai O Fishing Village etc and his new one also covers Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island.
Lantau Island has many protected areas from an environmental point of view and this includes the Big Buddha and Tai O which means transport options are very limited.
Any vehicle accessing these areas must have a special permit which is strictly regulated and in very limited supply which means that private cars and tour coaches generally cannot access these areas unless they have the permit.
This means that transport options to Tai O and the Big Buddha are public buses and taxis for pretty much everyone and of course the NP 360 Cable Car

Jacky Wong - a young man going places and we have a shared passion for cars!
I first met Jacky in 2011 in a busy subway station, when we where both doing tours, he knew who I was and when I got home I looked him up, we agreed to meet and the rest is history.
Jacky is such a kind and generous young man and he has personally helped me out many time over the years, every now and then we will hop into his 7 seater Toyota and go for a drive and a coffer and talk shop.
Jacky is completely fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin and he is very hard working and is someone who is totally focused on giving his guests the best possible experience, have a read of his Tripadvisor reviews
Jacky is one of those soft spoken individuals and although he is still quite young he comes across as being a real expert on Hong Kong and he has a real passion for showing his guests around.
One of the strengths of This is Asia Tours is their ability to do tours in Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen in Mainland China, there are not many Private Tour Companies that offer this service and more often or not Jacky leads the tours but he also has an excellent team of Private Guides he has trained up,
I met Jacky recently in late March 2025 and he he was marshalling 6 guides to pick up 6 different sets of guests who had arrived on cruise ships and wanted a private tour of Hong Kong!
