See image above of me, Jamie - yes I use AI but sparingly and bear in mind that AI cannot physically do a real private tour of Hong Kong!
It also has a problem with the reality of timing for a tour in Hong Kong which can really wreck your day

AI Tour Itineraries for Hong Kong, Timing is a huge issue
How can I find a private tour guide in Hong Kong with extensive local experience? who will make my AI Itinerary a reality
Most visitors to Hong Kong never book a traditional tour - that’s a fact. They piece together their trip from YouTube, TikTok, Google, and now AI. Many arrive with impressive-looking AI-generated itineraries that sound perfect on screen… but fall apart in real life.
I am Jamie, I have lived in Hong Kong since January 1972, I know Hong Kong and have completed 2,360+ Private Tours of Hong Kong since 2010, I was the first local company to offer Private Tours in Hong Kong so I have extensive local experience after having spent 54 years in Hong Kong and yes that translates to someone who really knows the place. I am a Yorkshireman from England and Hong Kong is my home, you will not find a more dedicated private tour guide in Hong Kong, I take what I do very seriously and I am very passionate about what I do, I want you to have the very best experience.

The Impact of AI Tour Itineraries on Private Tour Bookings in Hong Kong: A Balanced View and 10 Reasons Why a Private Guide Still Delivers the Superior Experience
The tourism landscape in Hong Kong is changing fast. AI tools now allow travellers to generate polished, multi-day itineraries in seconds, literally seconds!. For many visitors this feels liberating - free, instant, and fully customizable. Yet this convenience is also affecting private tour bookings. Families request a professional itinerary, receive an AI version, and sometimes cancel their guide, believing they can manage on their own and yes this has happened to me and my friends in the business.
Simply put, an AI Itinerary will literally save you hours and hours of tedious research using Google, trawling websites and reading Tripadvisor reviews and such, trust me, I totally understand this seismic shift in planning.
Just recently, a family who had confirmed a 3-day private tour cancelled after their daughter created an AI-generated 3 dayitinerary. They politely explained she wanted to “set up her own tour.” The plan looked comprehensive on screen, but it was riddled with timing errors that would have been impossible to follow in real Hong Kong conditions. The financial impact of that single cancellation was US$2,500 +. This is no longer a rare story - it is becoming a pattern.
I wish the family well, super nice people and in their position I might well have made the same decision, but the AI Itinerary was and always will be a theoretical exercise, an AI generated list on a piece of paper simply cannot compete with a living, breathing local expert on the ground that can adapt in an instant when real world situations arrive
So we are clear, I am a fan of AI, it is a game changer when it comes to research but for a Private Tour you need a Private Guide, period. I see on my daily excursions, loads of tourists with phones and tablets stumbling around trying to figure out how to get to a place, this is the reality of a list, looks good on paper so to speak but the real world is little different and Hong Kong is a huge city, crowded and not easy to navigate for visitors.
AI is not the enemy. It is a powerful brainstorming tool.
To repeat myself - the real issue is that many travellers underestimate the gap between an algorithm-generated checklist and the lived reality of navigating one of Asia’s most dynamic cities. Hong Kong’s compact size hides its complexity: steep hills, dense crowds, layered transport systems, and rapidly changing conditions. Below is a clear perspective on why a private guide consistently provides a better experience - and how AI and professional guides can actually work together, as I am already doing.
10 Reasons to Book a Private Tour in Hong Kong (and Why It Gives a Far Better Experience Than an AI Itinerary)
Real-Time Adaptability Weather, energy levels, and crowd surges change quickly. A private guide adjusts on the spot — shortening a walk in the heat or swapping an outdoor site for an indoor alternative. An AI itinerary is fixed the moment it’s generated and cannot respond to the day as it happens.
Accurate Timing and Realistic Logistics This is where most AI plans fail. They routinely underestimate walking times, MTR transfers, ferry waits, and the effect of hills or heat. The recent cancelled 3-day itinerary was a textbook example: attractive on paper, but physically unrealistic for a family. A guide builds in proper buffers so you never feel exhausted or rushed.
Insider Knowledge and Up-to-Date Local Insights Guides who live in Hong Kong know which spots are quieter this week, which restaurants have changed their hours, and which festivals or events are worth detouring for. AI draws from aggregated data that is often outdated or overly generic, in a nutshell, I have lived in Hong Kong for 50+ years, top that!
True Personalization for Your Group AI plans are based on a prompt and remain one-size-fits-most. A guide listens to your family’s pace, dietary needs, interests, and mobility before and during the tour, making constant micro-adjustments that no algorithm can match.
Stress-Free Navigation From buying the right Octopus card top-up to choosing the fastest route during rush hour, a guide removes all the mental load. You enjoy Hong Kong instead of staring at your phone. AI is very poor at figuring how to get from A to B to C to D to E in a timely manner
Cultural Depth and Storytelling Hong Kong’s layered history and everyday etiquette come alive through a guide’s explanations and spontaneous answers. AI can list facts, but it cannot read your reactions or build on what fascinates you in the moment and it certainly cannot compete with me, I have been told many times that I am a master storyteller!
Access to Authentic Places and Attractions - AI tends to recycle the same popular attractions. Guides introduce family-run eateries, quiet local neighborhoods, and lesser-known viewpoints that create the memories visitors treasure most.
Safety and Peace of Mind A guide watches for pickpockets in busy areas, knows safe routes, and can handle small emergencies. This is especially valuable for families, solo travelers, and anyone with mobility considerations., I should point out that Hong Kong is perfectly safe but I am totally aware of my surroundings and what is going on.
Maximum Value from Limited Time With only a few days in Hong Kong, every hour counts. A guide sequences the day intelligently, avoids low-value detours, and ensures you experience the best version of each place.
Human Connection and Lasting Memories Travel is about people. A great guide becomes your local friend - sharing jokes, recommending favorite snacks, and capturing natural family moments. These emotional touches cannot be programmed and did I tell you that people think I am a master storyteller!?
How AI and Private Tours Can Coexist and Strengthen Each Other
AI excels at inspiration and initial brainstorming. Many smart travellers now generate an AI draft and then ask a guide to review and refine it. The combination delivers the best outcome: creative ideas plus expert execution.
Forward-thinking private guides are already offering “AI Review & Refine” sessions or hybrid packages. Travellers get the freedom of technology and the reliability of human expertise. The tourism industry does not need to fight AI - it needs to clearly show what only a living, breathing guide can deliver: adaptability, empathy, local relationships, and genuine storytelling.
Hong Kong has always succeeded by surprising and delighting visitors. This shift is challenging operators such as myself to raise their game and focus even more on personalization and authentic experiences. For travellers, the smartest approach is simple: use AI to dream and explore possibilities, then let a private guide turn those dreams into a smooth, enriching, and truly memorable trip.
The future belongs to thoughtful collaboration between technology and human expertise and it is something I am embracing. Travellers who understand this balance will enjoy richer, less stressful, and far more rewarding visits to Hong Kong.

I do not do Food Tours in Hong Kong but I know people that do!
I do not do food tours as mentioned above, I have very specific reasons and part of it is that I do not speak Cantonese or write Chinese, I am from Yorkshire in England and I lack the language gene and it is not through lack of trying and yes a lot of restaurants do not have English menu’s or staff who speak conversational English.
.. and yet I have eaten at close to 1,400 restaurants in Hong Kong since January 2nd 1972, my wife was born in Hong Kong and we have been together over 40 years and her first language is Cantonese and a lot of her family are Chinese or half Chinese so I have never had much of an issue!
This does not translate to doing food tours though, yes, I could do them, no problem there but they would never ever be as good as the food tours done by my friends (see the 3 links above) most of their awesome guides are locally born Hong Kong Chinese and obviously food culture is part of their DNA, it is impossible for me to compete with that!
So please feel free to contact them for food tours
I do not do Hiking Tours in Hong Kong but I know someone that does!
I do not do Hiking Tours, never have and never will even though I used to go Hiking a lot when I was a lot younger, The Hong Kong Government is promoting hiking tours so I urge you to contact my friend Sabrina at Hong Kong Trails and Tours, she is a long time Hong Kong resident and and a very experienced hiker with close to 700 Hikes in 15+ years under her belt, please click on the link below
