Can I book a last minute Private Tour of Hong Kong?

“Generally speaking a lot of guests book tours many months in advance, based on my own experience, 2 - 6 months is quite common and Cruise Ship Passengers are known to book a Private Tour up to one year in advance - in general even booking a tour 1 - 4 weeks in advance can be problematical as many guides may already be booked and this just makes it even more difficult to take a last minute booking.
However, I can still be booked up with 24 hours advance notice only. Generally speaking the cut off time to do a tour is MIDNIGHT for a tour that you want to do 10 hours later starting at 10am! For the record I nearly always start a tour at 10am as I live a long way from the centre of Hong Kong.
Over the years I have had many instances of cruise ships arriving and passengers wanting me to pick them up at the Cruise Ship Terminal and give them a tour with ONE HOUR notice, this is not really feasible, the same goes for people arriving in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong International Airport and deciding there and then to book a layover tour with no notice.”
On average I get 1 or 2 requests a week from my friends in the business who have guests wanting to start a full day tour at 10am and they are trying to book a tour at 9am! and these are requests from my friends, I typically get 3 or 4 impossible to do requests for a last minute booking every month.
That is the issue that is very relevant to people jetting off to a destination (holiday, business, trade show etc) and wondering when they should book a tour before they leave or after they arrive in Hong Kong, if you leave it too long to book you may well find that the company or guide that you had your heart set on is no longer available.
There is no hard and fast rule about this but I would say that it is probably not a good idea to try and book a private tour after you have arrived in Hong Kong! it is quite likely that you have researched potential tour companies and it is always quite likely that they have no available guides at such short notice and your hopes of doing a fabulous tour with an amazing guide will be dashed!
Shown below is my booking calendar which is also on my Prices | Book Now Page, it clearly states what day (s) I am available but it is always best to double check with me as on some days I may have appointments but will still be able to fit in a tour, I get my fair share of last minute bookings, 24 - 48 hours before the tour.
Private Tour Company owners in Hong Kong are as human as anyone and depending on who you contact, availability may be limited and it could well be that they make other arrangements and cannot fit in a last minute booking.
Naturally many of my great friends who offer private tour guides in Hong Kong have 5, 6 or 7 guides so in theory they should have no problem at all entertaining a last minute booking, but as I always say, there are tour guides and then there are amazing tour guides!
I know that some Tour Companies in Hong Kong do no like to have calendars on their website showing availability as they do not want competitors to know how busy (or not so busy) they are! and some just do not like to take last minute booking and that is that.
I am more than happy to take a last minute booking but I do ask that I get at least 24 hours notice if possible! that to me counts as last minute!

I would hate it if you ended up doing a free tour or a hybrid free | group tour with 20 - 50 people.

Reminder - my Experience | Tour calendar above is updated daily and is 100% accurate as of 8am daily Hong Kong time, as I am generally out during the day I cannot update my calendar to show any bookings received after 8am until after I get back
When checking my availability please note it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to answer the phone when I am with my guests or otherwise engaged, also note that I cannot answer emails or messages when I am with guests, my focus is on the project I am busy with on the day.

Please note that in general if you book a tour on Viator or Tripadvisor you generally have NO control over what guide will lead your Private Tour of Hong Kong and this is the most important component of the tour. I urge you to check the actual company website and book via their website and do not forget to read Tripadvisor reviews as well.
My insider tip 2
My Private Tours are a combination of walking and using public transport and we go at a pace that suits you, I have never owned or driven a car in Hong Kong and I am somewhat of an expert on public transport, you want to know what makes Hong Kong tick well, travelling on the subway, buses, ferries, trams etc gives you that insight an insight you will not get sat in the back of a car and it enables us to cover a lot more ground on our tour.
