Divine intervention, karma, blind luck - I was last at this spot on April 18th 2025 and took this image of a taxi (below) from the exact spot of the accident involving a taxi today in Hong Kong.

“A Hong Kong Taxi crashes into a railing in the middle of Salisbury Road in TST, Kowloon in Hong Kong with the Peninsula Hotel in the background.

I was last stood in this spot on April 18th 2025 and took this image of a taxi at the spot on March 24th 2025, call it blind luck but had I been stood there today I would have been squashed like a bug!”

I was completely shocked by the image that showed up today on Instagram and sent to me by my great friend Amy, everyone knows that this is one of my favourite spots to take photographs of cars, I have taken many thousands of images here, shown below are just 3 images which give you some idea how close I am to the cars which are going relatively fast as they take the bend so to speak.

It is my thing to get up close and personal to the cars, I call them my action shots and I have to confess that I have not for a moment thought that someone would crash into the barrier at that exact spot! whilst I get very close to the vehicles I always felt that my being there would be on their radar as they come swooping round off Nathan Road, I have always felt perfectly safe there until today.

As mentioned above you can see from these images how close I get to the cars on Salisbury Road opposite the Peninsula Hotel, I could many times just reach out and touch the cars as I like to get up close and personal… and to be honest I am more concerned about scooter drivers who always seem to misjudge the curve they have to take and they try and overtake other vehicles on the inside line!

This is what I mean, the inside scooter had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting me and the fence! this image was also taken on March 24th 2025

This taxi fubar will not stop me from standing there in the future.
