In a nutshell I do Private Tours, I do NOT do Group Tours and I am NOT listed on Tripadvisor, Viator, Get Your Guide, Klook or other OTA’s and there is none of that lowest price nonsense that you see on the Viator site (as an example) I do not list on them because they charge a huge commission and basically everybody’s tour template looks exactly the same and you basically have no interaction with your guest, the entire process is just wrong and with many companies you cannot pick or choose your guide, you are assigned a guide based on availability.
I mean seriously they force you to write a detailed itinerary with time spent at each site, that is a totally irrelevant thing, every tour is different, every guest is different and time is simply not something you can list down and stick to, far to many variables! I have also noticed that many companies state that the “admission fee to a site is included in the cost” again that is nonsense as for many, many sites there is NO admission fee!
The only way to ensure the quality of who you are choosing to book with is to try and find their website details and deal directly with them and it is quite possible you will also get a cheaper price.
If you book with me, you are dealing directly with me and not some 3rd party company and I am your guide, I do not have any other guides working for me.
Please note that I do NOT do car tours or food tours (and have written quite a few blog posts on my reasoning) I am more than happy to recommend my friends who offer fantastic tours as well.
I am the pioneer of Private Tours in Hong Kong, my first website went live in mid 2010 and I got my first private tour in April 2011.
Unlike a lot of Tour Companies in Hong Kong I decided that I could not be everything to everybody, I did not want to do group tours (which these days means 10 people - 100 people!) I learnt very early on that group tours go at a very slow place and you spend most of your time making sure you did not lose anybody and I wanted no part of this nonsense of speaking through a microphone and learning a prepared script on and waving a stupid flag and using binders full of notes to make a point, that is just NOT me.
I am all about giving you a top quality experience in your limited time in Hong Kong and what sets me apart is that I have lived here for 53 years and I tell you how it is from my perspective, a lot of younger guides shy away from difficult questions and are not comfortable unless working from a memorised script and worse, painting a rosy picture of Hong Kong, I simply offer a balanced view and I do know the culture and the people, half of my wife’s family is Hong Kong Chinese and my wife’s first language is Cantonese and she has lived in Hong Kong since she was born, we have 3 adult sons.
My mantra has always been simple, no more than 6 people and you treat your guests in the same way as you would showing family members or friends around Hong Kong, in addition I have NO fixed itineraries and do not offer sample itineraries, every single tour I do is customised to what my guests want, most of the time they simply say, “show me Hong Kong” and I have completed over 2,330+ tours with over 6,000 guests and bear in mind for 3 years during Covid Hong Kong was closed completely to Tourists and I did NO tours, when Covid hit Hong Kong I had over 150 forward bookings cancelled!
I am also probably the ONLY Private Tour Company in Hong Kong that does NOT require a 50% deposit or full payment in advance, payment for me is in cash either HK$ or US$ when we meet on the day of the tour.
In fact I do have a couple of themed private tours of sorts let me explain
Jewish Heritage Tours - I incorporate sites and conversations about this subject during the course of a Private Tour
Lantau Island Tour - a very specific tour covering the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery and the Tai O Fishing Village, it is an 8 hour tour which means nothing else can be fitted in and virtually every time I have done one it is a 2nd tour booking, in other words day 1 a general Hong Kong Tour and day 2 the Lantau Island Tour.
Unique Private Tours of Hong Kong
I often receive requests for sample itineraries, but my response remains consistent: I don’t provide them. My private tours of Hong Kong are designed to be one-of-a-kind experiences, tailored specifically to each guest’s preferences. Having conducted 2,324 private tours between April 2011 and January 2020, before the tourism industry faced significant challenges due to COVID, I can confidently say that no two tours have ever been identical. Each tour is uniquely crafted to align with the individual desires of my guests.
The customization process begins with a brief, face-to-face conversation at the start of the tour. In just five minutes, we discuss your interests, must-see locations, or any specific wishes you may have. This allows me to create an itinerary on the spot that suits your preferences and takes practical factors into account. With tours ranging from 3 to 8 hours, the possibilities are vast, and I ensure the plan is flexible to accommodate your needs and interests.
Factors such as the weather on the day of the tour and your physical condition are also considered when planning the experience. My approach avoids rushing from one site to another to simply check off a list. Instead, I focus on creating a meaningful and enjoyable journey that reflects what you want to see and do, ensuring a relaxed and personalized pace.
With over 2,340 private tours completed and 53 years of living in Hong Kong, I bring extensive knowledge and expertise to every experience. My goal is to deliver a tour that feels uniquely yours, shaped by your vision and my ability to bring it to life in a way that showcases the best of Hong Kong.

My insider tip
Please note that in general if you book a tour on Viator or Tripadvisor you generally have NO control over what guide will lead your Private Tour of Hong Kong and this is the most important component of the tour. I urge you to check the actual company website and book via their website and do not forget to read Tripadvisor reviews as well.
