We formed the Group in early 2014 with the aim of improving existing high standards and sharing information, ideas and market intelligence, we want Guests who visit this fabulous city, Hong Kong to have the very best experience.

i know the Tour Industry in Hong Kong, I was a pioneer of Private Tours in Hong Kong, launching my business in 2010 and doing my first tour on April 4th 2011.

I completed 2,324 private tours in Hong Kong serving 6,000+ guests until Covid 19 closed down Hong Kong in January 2020 for 3 full years, I have since retired from doing tours and spend my time doing Hong Kong research, working as a consultant, offering unique Hong Kong experiences and doing my photography.

I also spend a significant portion of my day doing research in the fields of tours, travel and tourism and share this on a daily basis with my friends.

I was considered one of the very best private tour guides in Asia and was totally committed to offering my guests the best possible experience when they visited Hong Kong and worked (and continue to work) very closely with a select group of like minded tour companies with a similar mindset.

Mandy and Apple - legends amongst private tour operators in Hong Kong | as of March 27th 2024 they had 532 Tripadvisor Reviews and every single one is 5 star!

I first met Mandy (initially) in early May 2015 after they contacted me on May 3rd 2015, (they started their tour company in 2014) I had been referring guests to them and I guess they wanted to meet their mystery benefactor! I recall spending about 4 hours with Mandy and I was amazed at how someone so young could be so perfect for the Private Tour Guide Industry in Hong Kong.

My attitude | belief has always been along the lines that the minimum age for a great Private Tour Guide would be about 30 and above, ( I was 49 when I became a Private Tour Guide in Hong Kong ) naturally there are rare exceptions and the sisters Mandy and Apple prove that.

Both Mandy and her sister Apple where flight attendants who in my book make for perfect private tour guides as they receive exactly the right sort of comprehensive customer focused training, being a flight attendant is not that different to being a private tour guide.

In addition Mandy and Apple had done the right thing and set up their own company, 99% of the time I would always recommend booking a tour where the principal guides (s) own the company, it makes for a more personal tour and you get 150% effort! in my experience guides that are just employees simply lack the motivation to do a fantastic job, a good job, yes but NOT a fantastic job.

There are one or two companies who buck the trend (my great friends at Hello Hong Kong Tours) but that is simply because the owner Laura has a tour company in 4 cities in Asia and cannot be in 4 locations at once, however Laura is very meticulous and careful about who she hires and has a fabulous record!

I digress! back to meeting Mandy of Hong Kong Getaway Private Tours for the first time ……..

Mandy was an extremely confident young lady born and raised in Hong Kong with perfect English and Cantonese and that winning smile! and to boot she was partners with her sister Apple who was pretty much the same albeit with a slightly less outgoing personality, they compliment each other perfectly. It is amazing how they are able to get along with guests of any gender, age group and profession, to say that they “have the gift” is an understatement!

Over the next couple of years I gave them advice on those rare occasions that they needed some help and the rest is history.

The 3 year break from doing Private Tours in Hong Kong due to our Covid policies did not stop them, they opened up a family restaurant | coffee shop | grocery store on the island of Peng Chau which is still going strong.
