The slow burning evolution of the Vegan Street Food Culture in Hong Kong : For curious visitors who want to explore Hong Kong’s Iconic Food Items and Local Dining Culture

I do not do food tours in Hong Kong (and I have written blog posts on the reason why), I leave that to local experts and Food Tour Companies are also very familiar with the Street Culture in Hong Kong and many Food Tour Companies embrace the whole Vegan aspect to street foods.

The range of vagan eats on offer will never match traditional Hong Kong Street Food but if you know where to look there is plenty of variety on offer.

This is a current 2026 guide to Vegan Street Food in Hong Kong

Vegan Sreet Food | Legendary Street Food Snacks | Hong Kong

This is pretty much how vegan street food looks in Hong Kong, not in any shape or form is this fancy dining, basically it is cheap eats on a stick and frankly it is the not the sort of food I would eat (which is another reason why I do not do food tours) I have eaten at close to 1,400+ Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong since 1972 and I am pretty picky about what I stuff in my mouth.

I have been spoil over 54 years in Hong Kong, lots of fine dining, lots of great restaurants and I simply never got into the whole street culture with the exception of egg waffles and I am quite partial to Cheung Fun (Rice Noodle Rolls) but that is pretty much it.

I am well aware that 92% of the population of Hong Kong (at least) think I am nuts for not being a street food guru, what can I say, it’s just me, not the food.

It is not just vegan street food that I do not care for, I am not a big fan of vegan food full stop, I can eat it but I am always underwhelmed by the taste, like I said I have been spoilt over the decades

So in a nutshell explore vegan street food or even better, do a vegan food tour!

Vegan Dim Sum | Legendary Vegan Restaurants 2026 | Hong Kong

Whilst I am in the zone, I have also added a list of Vegan Dim Sum Restaurants in Hong Kong for those that want to sit down and have a great quality meal

When I eat Dim Sum I am quite partial to the vegan options!

Time to be perfectly honest

Of the 7 restaurants listed above, I have only eaten at the Lok Cha Tea House and it was just fine, you have to take into account I am not a foodie, food critic or a know it all when it comes to vegan food, I find it terribly bland and quite simply it does not hit the spot

Someone who is a vegan will probably love these places and will rave over the Lok Cha Tea House and that is great!

Failing that contact any of the 3 food tour companies below who know a lot more about vegan food than I do and Hong Kong Greeters in particular has a specific vegan food tour

The Temple Street Night Market | Street Food | Hong Kong

The new hottest place in Hong Kong to indulge in street food and kudos to the Hong Kong Government for making this happen. I have been going to the Temple Street Night Market since it opened in the mid 1970’s but I always thought there was something missing, yes, a street food section.

The Temple Street Night Market is generally on most visitors wish list when coming to Hong Kong, the new street food section should have been in place 20 years ago but I am not complaining. it is there now and adds a new dimension to the whole, what to do a night in Hong Kong

It has proven to be very popular.

… and yes there are Vegan Street foods on offer at the Temple Street Night Market

I do not do food tours in Hong Kong

I am pleased to say a lot of Food Tour Companies will have egg tarts and egg puffs on their tasting menu

I have very specific reasons and part of it is that I do not speak Cantonese or write Chinese, I am from Yorkshire in England and I lack the language gene and it is not through lack of trying and yes a lot of restaurants do not have English menu’s or staff who speak conversational English.

.. and yet I have eaten at close to 1,400 restaurants in Hong Kong since January 2nd 1972, my wife was born in Hong Kong and we have been together over 40 years and her first language is Cantonese and a lot of her family are Chinese or half Chinese so I have never had much of an issue!

This does not translate to doing food tours though, yes, I could do them, no problem there but they would never ever be as good as the food tours done by my friends (see the 3 links above) most of their awesome guides are locally born Hong Kong Chinese and obviously food culture is part of their DNA, it is impossible for me to compete with that!

So please feel free to contact them for food tours
