A word about Tours with very young kids
Not a problem, I have done many tours with kids aged under 2 years old in strollers and such and adjust the tour accordingly! I am a Father, I know the score! I once did a tour with a family of 7 kids including triplets and 4 strollers!
The Art of Family Travel: Tailoring Private Tours for the Next Generation of Travellers
Conducting a private tour for visitors to Hong Kong with children can present several challenges for a tour guide. Here are some of the things that need to be considered
Keeping Children Engaged: Children have shorter attention spans and may require more interactive and entertaining content to keep them engaged throughout the tour.
Safety Concerns: Ensuring the safety of children is paramount. Tour guides must be vigilant at all times and may need to adapt their route to avoid hazards.
Pacing: The pace of the tour may need to be slower to accommodate children's physical abilities, which could affect the overall schedule.
Flexibility: Children's needs and moods can be unpredictable. Tour Guides must be flexible and ready to adjust the itinerary on the fly.
Educational Content: Tailoring the information to be age-appropriate and educational for children while still engaging for adults can be a delicate balance.
Facilities: Ensuring that there are adequate facilities such as restrooms, places to eat, and areas to rest, which are essential for families with children.
Travelling with children can be both exhilarating and challenging. Yet, despite the obstacles, the benefits of exposing young minds to different cultures, landscapes, and experiences far outweigh the difficulties. Parents who take their children on trips to other countries open doors to a world of learning, empathy, and understanding.
First and foremost, exposing children to different cultures from an early age helps broaden their perspectives. By immersing them in diverse environments, children learn to appreciate the richness of human diversity. They witness first hand the variety of languages, customs and traditions that exist beyond their own familiar surroundings. This exposure fosters tolerance, empathy, and respect for others, crucial qualities in an increasingly interconnected world.

Oh, i forgot to add that I have had kids and young adults on tour throw up, faint, throw temper tantrums and generally be obnoxious, all in a days work!

The Ultimate Selfie Spot in Hong Kong
One of my favourite images that I have taken, the greatest panoramic city view in the world from the Lugard Road Lookout (or Jamie’s spot as I have been there 6,000+ times) at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong
How can you NOT come to Hong Kong and miss out on the best panoramic city view in the world, this one spot makes it all worthwhile! Please note that a lot of tour companies in Hong Kong will NOT take you to this place which is called the Lugard Road Lookout, they will take you to the Peak Tower Sky Terrace 428 Viewing Platform, The Peak Galleria Roof or the Lions Pavilion Lookout which do NOT have a 180 degree panoramic city view and in fact only show about half the view.

Private Tours for Families with Kids in Hong Kong….. oh and young people in general!
So here are a few facts about Jamie and his Private Tours and Experiences for families with kids and young people
I would also like to mention that I did a tour with a famous Princess and spent about 4 hours carrying her toddler daughter who simply would not let go of me! It was an unforgettable tour as they say!
My Private Tours of Hong Kong are Family Friendly!
I did 275 + tours (out of 2,324) and experiences between 2011 - 2020 with families with kids and then Hong Kong was closed to tourism for literally 3 years due to Covid
or another way of looking at it, 11.7% + of my guests were families with kids aged from 1 - 18 years old.
I also did hundreds of tours with young people or adults from the ages of 18 - 30
I did one tour with 2 young ladies from the USA aged 14! the instructions from Mum and Dad to me was “have fun!”
Hong Kong is a very family friendly city and if social media is a thing for the family - lots of spots for some amazing selfies!
Ever since I started doing private tours of Hong Kong in 2011 I have often wondered why families book me and the answer did not surprise me, I am a father of 3 sons and have a lifetime of knowledge and I just get it.
Hong Kong is a very large city, 430sqm or 1,114 sq km and has a population of roughly 7.54 million people. Hong Kong is also a very safe city and the citizens are very friendly but Hong Kong is not perfect, with me you get my views on life in Hong Kong and what makes Hong Kong tick and after 53 years living here I have a handle on that!
I have travelled myself extensively to many cities around the world and for me anyway Hong Kong is quite unique with such an interesting history, I have lived in Hong for 25 years under British Rule and 28 years under Chinese Rule, I am married to a local lady and we have 3 sons aged 25, 32 and 42, her native language is Cantonese and then English and works in an International School., we live in a town out in the sticks so to speak, a middle class apartment block and in our town, there are virtually NO foreigners living there which I always find quite odd given our amazing transport options and cheapish rents….
Unlike a lot of tour companies in Hong Kong, I welcome families with kids of any age to experience my Private Tours and Experiences I have a lot of experience doing them and I have to say I thoroughly enjoy doing them, you would be amazed at how much can be seen in half a day so to speak, I am not fazed by babies, toddlers in strollers and moody teenagers either, all in a days work as they say!
My tours are not cheap as you will note from the prices I charge and honestly, you get what you pay for (sorry for the cliche) for some reason in Hong Kong a lot of companies seem to think that any person over the age of 11 is an adult and subject to adult pricing! myself and my friends in the business each has a much more sensible policy, mine is shown below
For family tours - Kids 17 and under at the time of booking are FREE OF CHARGE and are always welcome on my experiences!
I am all about quality and giving you the best possible experience, I have lived in Hong Kong for 53 years and have completed so far 2,340+ Private Tours of Hong Kong and I guess I am also popular because I am English and we should not have any communication issues! I also have a very English sense of humour! I should also point out that I do not speak Cantonese but this has NEVER been a problem for me and my wife is just a phone call away, anyway!
This is a private tour and I do not work to a fixed itinerary, I am a veteran of over 2,340 private tours and flexibility is my middle name, I can accommodate special requests (subject to time constraints) or you can leave it in my capable hands.
An accurate description of my private tours and experiences are a hybrid walking tour, it is NOT all walking, I make extensive use of Public Transport which is Hong Kong Culture 101 and makes getting from A to B to C a breeze, please note I do NOT do car tours.
…. and yes on the subject of car tours, they are very popular with families, particularly for those who might have mobility issues or feel that the kids are not up to too much walking and I understand that, but I believe you are missing out on what makes Hong Kong tick, to understand Hong Kong you need to get around on our amazingly affordable and reliable public transport which is very family friendly and strollers on public transport are NOT an issue.
I also understand that young travellers also like to document their travels on social media like everyone else, I take that into account and please be aware that I have written a couple of blog posts about the horrible travel cliches, hidden gems, secret spots, travel like a local! please be aware that for example on Instagram people do not upload raw images, they tend to be heavily filtered with a dream like quality, in real life the subject of the image is quite different and trust me after 10 years of Instagram there is no such thing as a hidden gem any more in Hong Kong, a million people have been there done that and took the picture! in my experience many of my older guests actually lug around proper camera equipment as opposed to young people who just take selfies on their phones and trust me Hong Kong is very photogenic no matter how you take the image.
Please also be aware of timing on private tours, in my long experience you would be amazed at how many hidden gems and secret spots in Hong Kong are in very inconvenient locations hours from civilisation and sometimes it is just not worth hours of travelling time to take an image or two. I am all about special requests and making things happen but you do have to be realistic about timing.
As much as I dislike the term hidden gems I know that young people and kids embrace social media with a passion and they want to take cool images and cool selfies with a selfie stick, I do my best to make it happen!!
Please note I do know a little about photography, I have over 176,000+ images on my Flickr site, I am not in any shape or form a professional photographer but have a very nice camera and a lot of my guests use my image site for a spot of research on places they might like to visit.
So, there are the basics and hopefully you will decide to book a Private Tour | Experience with me, Jamie, your friendly host in Hong Kong.
Please note I pick you up an drop you off at your Hotel.

My insider tip 1
Please note that in general if you book a tour on Viator or Tripadvisor you generally have NO control over what guide will lead your Private Tour of Hong Kong and this is the most important component of the tour. I urge you to check the actual company website and book via their website and do not forget to read Tripadvisor reviews as well.
My insider tip 2
I know a lot of parents are always quite anxious about the kids showing them up and misbehaving on a tour, all I will say to that is been there, done that and wore the t - shirt, so please do not worry about stuff like that, just enjoy the day and yes, I always get on very well with kids.
My insider tip 3
My Private Tours are a combination of walking and using public transport and we go at a pace that suits you, I have never owned or driven a car in Hong Kong and I am somewhat of an expert on public transport, you want to know what makes Hong Kong tick well, travelling on the subway, buses, ferries, trams etc gives you that insight an insight you will not get sat in the back of a car and it enables us to cover a lot more ground on our tour.
