Two Hours with a Hong Kong Original – The Real Story Over Coffee (or not!)
Most visitors to Hong Kong never book a tour Private, Group or other. that is a fact
They piece together their trip from YouTube, TikTok, Google, and AI – often from first-time visitors who barely scratched the surface and top it off with an AI generated itinerary which is largely theoretical and ignores the reality of getting around Hong Kong from A to B to C to D to E using our public transport system.
You deserve better.
When is a tour not a tour, why when it is a talking tour giving you a real insight into Hong Kong
Spend two relaxed hours with me – Jamie – in the comfort of your hotel lobby (or at the airport if you’re on a long layover) and walk away with the unfiltered, unscripted truth about this city from someone who’s lived here since 2 January 1972 and has personally guided 2,350+ private tours since 2011.
No walking. No set itinerary. No sugar-coating.
Just a proper Yorkshireman telling you the good, the bad, and the occasionally ugly – exactly as I’ve done for CEOs, diplomats, royalty, and curious families for the last fifteen years as a Private Tour Guide.
You’ll leave with:a crystal-clear picture of today’s Hong Kong (the one most journalists get wrong)
Tailored insider recommendations – the sights and sites worth your time and the tourist traps to skip
Q & A - Honest answers to every question you have
When: Any time of day that suits you – morning coffee, afternoon tea, or pre-dinner drink
Where: Your hotel lobby (or Hong Kong International Airport for transit passengers)
If you prefer I am also happy to be your guest for lunch or dinner in a restaurant of your choice, I actually eat very little these days!
Group size: Private, maximum 6 persons
Duration: 2 hours
Fee: US$200 flat (HK$1,560) – cash on the day
The Fee is the TOTAL fee for 1 - 6 people and NOT a per person amount
Coffee, tea, drinks or snacks NOT included
Airport meetings for layover passengers: Additional US$25 / HK$200 surcharge

Jamie
Hong Kong Group Tours
a common site on the streets of Hong Kong these days
Why Travellers are choosing my 2 hour Insider Chat rather than booking a short 4 hour Traditional Private Tour or Group Tour
Zero physical effort
You have just survived a 14–18 hour flight, your knees are shot, or you have been travelling with elderly parents / young kids. Walking 15,000 steps in 33 °C heat sounds like punishment. Two hours sitting in an air-conditioned lobby with me sounds like heaven!
Jet-lag-friendly timing
You land at 7 a.m. or have a red-eye departure. A full-day private tour is impossible, a group tour starts too early or too late the new “free transit tour” on offer is a waste of time…. My chat slots in whenever your awake and feeling human again and yes, I meet you at the Airport! or if you are staying for a day or two, at your Hotel
You have “done” the main sights and sites already
Some of you (and your friends) have been to Hong Kong two or three times. You have already done Victoria Peak, the Star Ferry, The Big Buddha, a night market and such. You may still crave the real story - the WHY and the HOW COME – the stories and context only I can give.
You hate crowds, megaphones and canned scripts
Group tours = 25 people, flags, headsets, and a guide shouting rehearsed facts. Your chat with Jamie = private, quiet, and you can ask the questions you are actually interested in (politics, triads, 2047, property prices, best schools… whatever interests you).
You want the unfiltered truth, not the sanitised version
Most guides (and all group tours) skip the “bad and ugly”. I am famous for not doing that. I love Hong Kong passionately but NO place is perfect… Travellers who read the New York Times or the BBC, The Guardian and especially travel publications sense they’re being fed half the story with me you get a reality check and the worst advice tends to come from Travel Bloggers who have been to Hong Kong once and have become instant experts
You want a custom plan from the one person you can trust
You are tired of AI-generated itineraries and TripAdvisor top-10 lists. Two hours with the guy who has live here for 50+ years and completed 2,350+ private tours = a perfect, hand-crafted plan for the rest of your stay. So yes I can help you if you have an itinerary in mind and save you a lot of time.
Many of the guests I have done tours for give me a wish list (gleaned from residents of Hong Kong, friends and social media and such and quite often this includes going out into the wilderness, Hong Kong is 430sq miles and time is a factor that most people do not think about, a popular tour now that I have done is just Victoria Peak and the Big Buddha and that requires 7 hours!
Time-efficient luxury
US$200 for two hours of my expertise in Hong Kong is cheaper than most private half-day tours and infinitely more valuable than any free hotel “welcome briefing”.
Perfect for multi-generational families or couples with different energy levels
One half wants to hike Dragon’s Back, the other half wants to sit by the pool. My chat gives everyone the context and lets each person choose their own adventure afterwards.
Layover or departure-day saviour
9-hour connection at HKIA or a 7 p.m. flight? I can meet you at the airport or in town, get the full Hong Kong download, and you still feel that you have “done” the city properly.
Bragging rights & genuine connection
Yes, you can go home and say, “We didn’t do a tour – we had coffee with Jamie who’s lived there since 1972.” That’s a far better story than “we followed a girl with a yellow umbrella”.!
…. and finally | I am a very experienced private tour guide and I am also very familiar with a lot of guides doing tours in Hong Kong, private, group and very low cost tours.and frankly the quality of the tour guides can be very patchy, there are some brillant ones (and I know them all) and then there are ones who simply use memorised scripts relevant to the tour itinerary and lack the passion and knowledge to share the real Hong Kong story and yes, in general you should always go for an older guide not a youngster straignt out of University, they simply have more life experience in Hong Kong and that is where my 50+ years in Hong Kong comes in.
